The Legend of CAMBUGAHAY FALLS
Posted by gosiquijor on 2008/9/13 20:14:39 (886 reads)

Many, many years ago, there lived three beautiful maidens in the hinterlands of what is now called Lazi. These beautiful damsels, beautiful as they were, did not meet the approval of the king of all creatures around. They were vain and haughty and cared only for their own.

One cool night, an old woman came to their abode under a huge cliff, shivering with cold and hunger. She asked to be taken in for the night but the three haughty sisters had only scorn and contempt for the old woman. They pushed her out forcefully shouting, “Don’t dare step on our place again!”

The old woman mysteriously disappeared. In a few minutes, the earth shook and a huge waterspout (“buhawi”) fell on the cliff where the three maidens lived. The cliff disappeared in the swirling waters and in its place a gush of clear waters sprouted strong and persistent. No trace of the three sisters were found. They were lost by the terrible impact of the waterspout that fell on their dwelling one night.

In its place now is a beautiful three-tiered falls whose clear waters cascade down the cliffs. The waters rustle down its way to Senora Bridge and out into the blue waters of the sea. It is said that once in a blue moon, a mysterious woman would appear on the bridge and it is believed that this is one of the sisters who lived a long, long time ago out there in the hinterlands.
